It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Mr. Rolf MAIER at the age of 86. He was and will remain a great figure of French weightlifting. Three times selected at the Olympic Games (1960, 1964 and 1968), he was bronze medallist in the 75kg class at the 1965 European Championships. Technical advisor in his region of Picardy, he brought Daniel SENET to the title of world champion in the snatch in 1981 in Lille (Fr.) On April 10, 2023, the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Moldova hosted a coaching seminar as part of the IWF Coaching Licensing Project and the EWF Pilot Program. Mr. Colin Buckley, EWF Coaching Research & Scientific Committee Chairman, presided over the seminar, which was held at the State University of Sport of Moldova with the support of the National Anti-Doping Agency. The annual electoral congress of the weightlifting federation of Iceland took place on Sunday 27th of March. A new board was elected and for the first time since the founding year of the federation in 1973 a female president was elected, Helga Hlín Hakonadottir an attorney that has competed in several weightlifting competitions on a masters level. She will lead a board of 12 that includes two athlete representatives and four vice board members. Following the EWF Best Weightlifter project started from last year, the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) will award the best weightlifter of the year in 2022. This year the EWF has partnered with the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Europe to organize the voting process and determine the winners.
