The 2023 EWF European Championships have begun in Yerevan, Armenia, and the competition’s opening groups featured a number of thrilling moments.

Here is a day-by-day overview of the events so far:

DAY 1

The Portuguese team made its long-awaited comeback to the international stage on the first day of the competition in 45kg cat.  ROSAS PINTO Nair opened the competition for Portugal. EWF is thrilled to see them back in European family. This was first of many Portuguese lifters to present it’s national team. EWF wishes all the best to portugal lifters.

Turkish lifter Bektas Cansu took home gold in the women’s 45kg opening group, followed by Romanian Pana Adriana and Spanish Marta Garcia.

Irish weightlifter Thammy Nguyen made weightlifting history by winning the nation’s first-ever senior medal in the clean and jerk at 49 kilograms, claiming the bronze.

Romania’s Mihaela Cambei had the best performance of the 49kg group, with lifts of 92 kg in the snatch, 106 kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 198 kg. She also set two continental records in the snatch and total. Italian Imperio Giulia took silver medal, while Anhelina Lomachynskaya of ukraine won bronze.
