The world of weightlifting was abuzz with excitement during the opening ceremony of the 2023 EWF European Championships, as the winners of the highly anticipated EWF – AIPS Europe Weightlifter of the Year 2022 were revealed. This year, the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) partnered with the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Europe to organize the voting process and determine the most deserving candidates for this prestigious title.

After invitation of EWF President, Antonio Conflitti to announce the names of the winners, Charles Camenzuli, President of AIPS Europe, took to the stage and the anticipation was palpable as the crowd waited with bated breath to hear the results.

The excitement reached a fever pitch as Camenzuli revealed that the title of EWF – AIPS Europe Weightlifter of the Year 2022 had been awarded to Koanda Solfrid of Norway and Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia.

Solfrid and Talakhadze had both exhibited exceptional talent and athleticism throughout the year, garnering the admiration and respect of fans and peers alike.

In addition to Solfrid and Talakhadze, second place in the women’s category was awarded to Emily Campbell from the UK, while third place went to Toma Loredana from Romania. In the men’s category, second place was awarded to Antonino Pizzolato from Italy, and third place went to Ozbek Furkan from Turkey.

The EWF – AIPS Europe Weightlifter of the Year 2022 award is a significant recognition of the exceptional talent, hard work, and dedication that weightlifters demonstrate in their pursuit of excellence. The winners, along with the other finalists, serve as an inspiration to aspiring weightlifters worldwide and represent the pinnacle of achievement in this demanding sport.

IMPORTANT : Members of AIPS Executive Committee voted to elect the
Woman and Man Weightlifter of the Year of the European Weightlifting
Federation. Votes were from 10 – 1 for each category with 10 being the
highest number for the preferences.
