One week of friendship, mutual training, and experience exchange has come to an end. From September 5 to 11, 2022, 40 athletes and 15 coaches from nine countries shared their sports knowledge in Split, Croatia. Besides daily training and theoretical lessons, as well as an anti-doping seminar, developing friendships among young people was something that EWF insisted on in the journey within a clean and safe sport of weightlifting. The training camp in Split, Croatia, was officially opened on the 6th of September by IWF President, Mr. Mohammed Jalooud and EWF President, Kt. Antonio Conflitti. It is marvelous to see an increase in the number of female coaches, and we appreciate the involvement of 9 EWF Federations, 40 athletes, and 15 coaches. Morning activities outside begin the day. After that, there are two gym sessions as well as evening classes for both the coach and the athlete. EWF was informed about the newly established weightlifting training center by the Swedish Weightlifting Federation. “The Swedish Weightlifting Federation launches on September 1, together with Eleiko Group AB and the University of Halmstad, a national training center where the idea is to bring together Sweden’s best lifters and coaches and at the same time enable the combination of elite sports and university studies. In the last four years, Sweden has won over 20 European Championship medals in senior and youth categories, in addition to a couple of World Championship medals. The European Youth and U15 Weightlifting Championships have been successfully concluded. The AWF President and the AWF Executive Board discussed with the Ministry of Health following certain concerns from the national federations and decided to lower the cost of the COVID test from 50 EUR to 30 EUR due to the high volume of tests. The cost includes the medical staff, three shifts with 2 nurses, accommodation in case someone tests positive. Two British Weight Lifting (BWL) home nation weightlifters have been selected by their respective Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) to serve as their flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on 28 July. Emily Campbell will fly the flag for Team England.
