The 53rd Annual Congress of the Icelandic Weightlifting Federation (LSÍ) was held on March 25th, 2026, at the headquarters of the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland (ÍSÍ) at Engjavegur. The Congress was conducted in full accordance with the Federation’s statutes and was attended by representatives of five affiliated member clubs.
The Chair of LSÍ, Ms. Harpa Þorláksdóttir, formally opened the Congress and presented a comprehensive review of the Federation’s activities over the past year. Her address highlighted key initiatives, notable achievements, and ongoing developments within the Federation. The Board’s Annual Report for the year 2025 was subsequently approved unanimously.
The President of ÍSÍ, Mr. Willum Þór Þórsson, addressed the assembly, outlining the current status and future vision of the national sports movement. On this occasion, Mr. Ingi Gunnar Ólafsson was awarded the ÍSÍ Gold Medal, and Ms. Hrund Scheving was awarded the ÍSÍ Silver Medal, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Olympic weightlifting in Iceland.
Elections to the Federation’s Board and other positions of trust were conducted during the Congress. As no additional nominations were received, all candidates were elected unopposed. Ms. Harpa Þorláksdóttir will continue to serve as Chair for the remainder of her current term of office.
At the conclusion of the Congress, three individuals were formally recognized as Honorary Members of LSÍ in acknowledgment of their significant contributions to the sport: Mr. Óskar Sigurpálsson (10th), Mr. Ásgeir Bjarnason (11th), and Ms. Eygló Fanndal Sturludóttir (12th).
