The 15th Mediterranean Weightlifting Cup was successfully held in Ismailia, Egypt, from 12 to 16 May 2026, bringing together more than 30 participants from across the Mediterranean region.

The competition was organized simultaneously with the African Weightlifting Championships, utilizing the same competition venue that had recently hosted the IWF World Junior Championships, where European athletes played a significant role and achieved good results.

The event, which gathered some of the best weightlifters from the Mediterranean region, was preceded by the Congress of the Mediterranean Weightlifting Confederation, during which several important decisions were adopted. Among the key outcomes announced was the confirmation that the 2027 edition of the Mediterranean Weightlifting Cup will be hosted in Greece, while the Weightlifting Federation of Portugal was officially admitted into membership of the Confederation.

In addition, the qualification system for the 2030 Mediterranean Games was presented by the President of the Mediterranean Weightlifting Confederation, three-time Olympic Champion Pyrros Dimas, with the objective of ensuring greater representation of weightlifting within the future Games programme.

The competition served as an excellent introduction to the main event of the season for Mediterranean weightlifters — the Mediterranean Games, scheduled to take place in Taranto at the end of August and beginning of September 2026.
