The 2026 British Championships, held on 16–17 May 2026 at the Telford International Centre, brought together the United Kingdom’s leading weightlifters and foreign guests.

Approximately 300 athletes competed across three competition platforms as part of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games qualification event, including the Junior Team USA, who participated as guest athletes.

Among the distinguished guests invited to the event by the Chair of British Weight Lifting, the Mayor of Telford and Wrekin, Councillor Eileen Callear, and British Weight Lifting CEO and IWF Executive Board Member, Matthew Curtain, was the President of the European Weightlifting Federation, Dr Astrit Hasani.

The event also marked the presentation of British Weight Lifting’s recent brand refresh. Reflecting on the organization’s heritage dating back to 1910, British Weight Lifting introduced a renewed visual identity designed to modernize and strengthen the federation’s image for the future. The new branding, officially unveiled during the Championships, included a new logo, updated colour palette, typography, iconography, photography style, and promotional materials.

Dr Hasani stated:
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to British Weightlifting for the kind invitation and for the excellent organization of the competition across three platforms.

The decision of the EWF Executive Board to establish a working group dedicated to the organization of future European competitions on three platforms represents a positive and forward-looking step. We look forward to receiving feedback from other National Federations, after which the working group will carefully evaluate all contributions and develop appropriate proposals for consideration by the IWF, with the objective of improving the efficiency and organization of future European Championships.”
