The German Weightlifting Federation (BVDG) continues to push the limits of competitive weightlifting with the Luxiaojun GWL Open 2025, an event that will bring together elite lifters, ambitious amateurs, and alternative strength sports. This competition, scheduled for July 4-5, 2025, in Frankfurt am Main, demonstrates the German Weightlifting Federation’s dedication to promoting diversity and innovation in weightlifting.
Unlike typical weightlifting competitions, the GWL Open combines Olympic weightlifting with CrossFit and Functional Fitness participants. By abolishing the barrier for BVDG club affiliation, the federation assures that independent athletes and international competitors can demonstrate their abilities.
Athletes from all over Europe are invited to compete, making the GWL Open a truly international event for lifters with diverse training backgrounds and nationalities.
To ensure the event’s competitive integrity, lifters must fulfill minimum total performance standards. International and unaffiliated athletes must previously provide video footage of their weigh-ins and lifts to ensure compliance with BVDG regulations.
The President of the German Weightlifting Federation, Florian Sperl, is pleased with how much enthusiasm involved the federation members are:
“BVDG and ASC Zeilsheim in Frankfurt am Main will organize the event. In addition to medals and certificates, the organizers prepare special gifts. There will be media coverage, live streaming, and a raffle with excellent prizes. We encourage weightlifters from across Europe to join and compete in this exciting event”.
