In Thessaloniki, on the occasion of the European Youth and U15 Championships, in full swing until Sunday, June 23, 2024, there was a new educational meeting organized by the EWF Anti Doping and Fair Play Commissions led by Denise Offermann and Alexandru Padure.
With the support of the Hellenic Weightlifting Federation, the approximately 100 participants (athletes, coaches and officials) enjoyed a special lecturer and a detailed presentation on the importance of the extremely important topic of anti-doping in our sport. It is about the well-known doctor of the Hellenic Weightlifting Federation and member of the IWF Medical Committee Georgios Tsikouris, who has been active for more than 20 years in weightlifting in Greece and beyond. Doctor Tsikouris, who has extensive experience and as a doctor of competitions in several international events, spoke about the importance of education on the general theme of anti-doping, about the danger of food supplements and unverified medications, as well as the major risk to the health of every athlete that can be caused by the consumption of prohibited substances.
The European Weightlifting Federation is extremely happy that it managed to keep the tradition of Anti-Doping and Fair Play meetings organized on the occasion of all continental competitions and considers anti-doping and fair play education a crucial commitment to guarantee the integrity of the continental organization in the spirit of the highest sports, Olympic and even social values.
Last year, the EWF have organized educational sessions at all European championships. The anti-doping and fair play seminars thus enjoyed a large, but also extensive participation at the level of an important number of delegations from Europe and this is what the European weightlifting governing body proposes for this year as well and with the commitment to make these actions even more attractive for everybody with the important support of the national and international anti-doping organizations.
