This weekend, September 22-24, 20023, the Icelandic Weightlifting Federation hosted an IWF Level 2 coaching course with support from the IWF Development Program. Ms. Karoliina Lundahl from Finland, an IWF Coach Developer, flew in to teach the course. Seven female and 13 male coaches attended the course from various weightlifting clubs across the country.
The course started at 5:00 PM on Friday and ran until 1:00 PM on Sunday, including both lectures and practical exercises as Ms. Lundahl believes it is crucial to connect the theoretical aspect presented in lectures with real application in the weightlifting gym. The Level 2 coaching course is aimed at experienced olympic weightlifting coaches and athletes to enhance their knowledge and to strive for excellence. Participants actively took part in discussions and practical exercises.
The lectures were held at The National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland, and the practical exercises took place at the Reykjavik Weightlifting Club (LFR).
The Weightlifting Federation of Iceland expresses gratitude to the IWF for their support in expanding educational coaching opportunities for weightlifting coaches in Iceland and further promoting and increasing the number of knowledgeable coaches in the sport. With the growing number of athletes representing Iceland on an international level it is essential to strengthen the foundation of the sport. In addition the knowledge will not only benefit competitive athletes in Olympic weightlifting but also supports other sports that utilize Olympic weightlifting in their training.
EWF is pleased that educational events are being held in Europe and appreciates the participation of recognized European weightlifting experts.
