Bucharest, 3rd August 2023 – The energy was palpable as Day Eight of the EWF European Junior and U23 Championships unfolded, the athletes displaying unparalleled strength and skill in their weight categories. The day was filled with raw emotions, dramatic triumphs, and new champions being crowned.
Kicking off the day’s contests, the Men’s U23 102kg category witnessed an exhilarating victory by Tudor Bratu from Moldova. Illia Moskalenko of Ukraine and Bartlomiej Adamus from Poland completed the winning trio, each demonstrating remarkable power and precision in their lifts.
The Women’s Junior +87kg category was dominated by Turkiye athletes, with Tuana Suren with new record and Fatmagul Cevik claiming the gold and silver. Armenia’s Julieta Avanesyan demonstrated unwavering resilience, snatching the bronze medal.
The Men’s Junior 109kg category saw Giorgi Kirvalidze from Georgia standing tall at the top of the podium. Ali Shukurlu from Azerbaijan and Taner Caglar from Turkiye followed closely, securing the silver and bronze positions with their standout performances.
The Women’s U23 87kg category turned out to be a memorable event with Liana Gyurjyan of Armenia claiming the gold. Romania’s Alexandra Alexe and Spain’s Irene Blanco Tarela made their nations proud by clinicking the silver and bronze medals.
Day Eight’s grand finale featured the Men’s U23 109kg category, where Zaza Lomtadze of Georgia prevailed. Petros Petrosyan of Armenia and Vladyslav Prylypko from Ukraine made their mark, showcasing exceptional strength to secure the silver and bronze.
The presence of the four-time Romanian rowing Olympic Champion, Viorica Chermes, among the medal presenters, added to the day’s significance and excitement.
