Bucharest, 1st August 2023 – The EWF European Junior and U23 Championships, already a hotbed for awe-inspiring performances, reached new peaks on the seventh day as competitors shattered records and showcased their intense dedication.

The day began with an intense display from the Men’s Junior and U23 96kg B Groups. The first A group was the Men’s Junior 96kg, where Gervasi Tabagari of Georgia won gold. Danylo Chyniakov of Ukraine and Simone Karol Abati of Italy claimed silver and bronze, respectively.

In the Men’s U23 96kg category, Raphael Friedrich of Germany emerged as the gold medalist. Irakli Gobejishvili of Georgia and Ukraine’s Anatolii Horidko completed the podium, underlining the tough competition in this category.

The Women’s Junior 87kg event witnessed a remarkable performance from Mariam Murgvliani from Georgia, who secured the gold. Bursa Can from Turkiye and Kiara Klug from Germany secured the silver and bronze medals, adding to their countries’ medal hauls.

The Women’s U23 81kg category saw Nikki Lowik from the Netherlands climb to the top of the podium, followed by Sara Yenigun of Turkiye and Anastasia Cilcic of Moldova.

The final group of the day, the Men’s Junior 102kg, was highlighted by an extraordinary achievement by Garik Karapetyan from Armenia, who set new World and European record. Gurami Vekua of Georgia and Emin Burun from Turkiye clinched the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

As the seventh day of the competition concludes, the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) extends its heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers who have given their invaluable contribution to the event. Their tireless efforts have played an integral role in the smooth running of the championships, ensuring that athletes and spectators alike enjoy an unforgettable experience.
