The European Olympic Committees is an organization based in Rome, Italy, consisting of National Olympic Committees from the continent of Europe. Among other duties, the EOC organizes three major multi-sport events. These are the European Youth Olympic Festival, the Games of the Small States of Europe, and the European Games.
The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) is a biannual sports competition and has two editions: summer, which started in Brussels in 1991, and winter, which began in Aosta two years later.
The summer EYOF will be held in Maribor, Slovenia, from July 23 to July 29 this year.
This competition’s agenda will include 12 sports branches and 13 sports disciplines, with representatives from 48 countries.
Weightlifting is included as a demonstration activity in the Summer EYOF for the first time this year. There are sixteen participants from seven countries: Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia, Serbia, Malta, and Slovenia.
This demonstration tournament, in which multinational teams (a girl and a boy from different nations) will compete, will take place on July 24, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. on Maribor’s Main Square. This strategic EWF endeavor intends to include weightlifting in other EOC activities.
EWF is grateful to the EOC and LOC in Maribor for the opportunity to showcase the achievements of European young athletes to the European sports family.
We wish all participants luck and hope that weightlifting will soon become a part of the EOC program.
