Following the EWF Best Weightlifter project started from last year, the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) will award the best weightlifter of the year in 2022. This year the EWF has partnered with the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Europe to organize the voting process and determine the winners. The award will be presented during the Opening ceremony of the 2023 EWF European Championships.

The EWF Executive Board has proposed a list of 10 male and 10 female weightlifters for the inaugural award. The list includes some of the most accomplished athletes from the 2022 season, who have made remarkable achievements in various competitions throughout the year, showcasing their strength, technique, and skill.

AIPS Europe will organize the voting process according to their criteria and announce soon the best male and female weightlifter for 2022. The award ceremony will take place during the Opening ceremony of the 2023 EWF European Championships in Yerevan, Armenia.

The list of women nominees includes:

  • Emily Campbell (GBR)
  • Iryna Dekha (UKR)
  • Saziye Erdogan (TUR),
  • Solfrid Eila Amena Koanda (NOR),
  • Giulia Imperio (ITA),
  • Nina Sterckx (BEL),
  • Patricia Strenius (SWE),
  • Dora Tchakounte (FRA),
  • Tenishia Thornton (MLT), and
  • Loredana-Elena Toma (ROU)

Meanwhile, the men’s list includes:

  • Simon Josef Brandhuber (GER)
  • Davit Hovhannisyan (ARM) ,
  • Hristo Dimitrov Hristov (BUL),
  • Romain Jordan S. Imadouchene (FRA),
  • Andres Eduardo Mata Perez (ESP),
  • Muhammed Furkan Ozbek (TUR),
  • Antonino Pizzolato (ITA),
  • Marin Robu (MDA),
  • Lasha Talakhadze (GEO), and
  • Dmytro Voronovskyi (UKR).

The EWF Weightlifter of the Year award aims to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of European weightlifters and inspire future generations to excel in the sport.
