Alexandru Padure has been unanimously elected as the new President of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation. The elections took place on Tuesday, 14th March 2023, during the Ordinary General Congress held in the National Sports Complex of Bascov, that will also host the first weightlifting competitions of this year: the Romanian Cup for Junior III, dedicated to 9-12 years old athletes and the Romanian Cup for Junior I U20.
Acting General Secretary, Padure, was voted by all 30 representatives of the affiliated clubs with voting right, the other counter-candidate, Gheorghe Biris, Vice-President of the FRH, withdrawing from the electoral race at the beginning of the General Congress.
During the same assembly, Mr. Ionut Robert Onel received 19 votes for the position of Member of the Federal Board while Adrian Ioan Jigau received 10 votes. Ioan Iordache withdrew prior the ballot. The Appeals Commission’s President will be Mr. Catalin Erhan.
The newly appointed representatives will remain in office until the next elections in 2025 together with the rest of the Federal Board’s Members elected in 2021. The Romanian Federation announced that will continue to follow the development of weightlifting at national and school level, in the spirit of clean sport and Fair Play and has as a priority the continuation of the implementation, together with the competent organizations, of all measures to fight against doping through education activities, testing plans and through all the initiatives that can be beneficial for the sport.
