The Italian Weightlifting Federation and EWF mourn the passing of Dr. Carmelo Ciotta, the historic face of our sport in Italy, first as an athlete, then as manager and doctor of the Federation. 79 years old last February 7, Carmelo Ciotta, Emeritus Master of Olympic Weightlifting, founded the “Polisportiva Dynamo Club” of Palermo in the ‘70s, where he discovered many athletes and champions of the discipline: among them the Olympic bronze medalist Nino Pizzolato and his brother Fabio , Jennifer Lombardo, Giorgia Russo, Giorgio De Luca and coach Domenico Marzullo. A long career as a manager, to which he added that of federal Doctor, in the four-year mandate 2009-2012, and internationally, both for the European and International Federations for more years. The funeral will be held in Fontanellato, in the province of Parma, where Carmelo Ciotta had moved in recent months.
The EWF President Antonio Conflitti and the EWF Executive Board express sorrow for the loss and send sincere condolences to Dr. Ciotta’s family and to FIPE.
