This weekend, September 22-24, 20023, the Icelandic Weightlifting Federation hosted an IWF Level 2 coaching course with support from the IWF Development Program. Ms. Karoliina Lundahl from Finland, an IWF Coach Developer, flew in to teach the course. Seven female and 13 male coaches attended the course from various weightlifting clubs across the country.The course started at 5:00 PM on Friday and ran until 1:00 PM on Sunday, including both lectures and practical exercises as Ms. Lundahl believes it is crucial to connect the theoretical aspect presented in lectures with real application in the weightlifting gym. The IWF Congress was held in Riyadh (KSA), on September 11th, 2023, and the most important topic was the reform of the IWF Constitution. The support for the Constitution was even stronger, with 139 positive votes cast, indicating that the document was unanimously approved. A 75% majority was required for this document to be revised successfully, and it received 85.2% support from IWF full members. The IWF Constitution update (adopted in August 2021) included a rigorous study of the wording to facilitate reading and understanding of its substance. The annual EWF Youth Training Camp, hosted by the Turkiye Weightlifting Federation, concluded its week-long event in Konya (August 13-20, 2023), marking the end of a transformative experience for young athletes and coaches from across Europe. On August 12, 2023, a notable International Blue Sword Tournament was held in Meissen, Germany, with presence of weightlifters from Portugal, Poland, Finland, Venezuela, Belgium, Denmark, Suisse, Luxembourg, and Germany. The traditional Tournament “Cup of the Blue Swords” in Meissen this year was, as usual, a spectacular event that gathered weightlifters from all over the world together. During its live meeting in Bucharest, on the 28 th of July and further on-line working sessions, the EWF Executive Board made important decisions for future activities and competition’s calendar fixing the allocation for next year’s European Championships.
