The women’s 58 kg category belonged to Kamila Konotop from Ukraine, who controlled the competition from the start and finished with 100 kg in snatch, 121 kg in clean & jerk and 221 kg in total.
Behind her, Aleksandra Grigoryan of Armenia secured silver with 210 kg, while Olga Te took bronze on 209 kg. It was a category with movement across the lifts, Noemi Filippazzo of Italy took second place in snatch with 94 kg.
The men’s 60 kg category produced one of the most dramatic stories of the day. Georgia’s Goderdzi Berdelidze thrilled the home crowd by winning the snatch with 125 kg, ahead of Armenia’s Garnik Cholakyan on 124 kg and fellow Georgian Ramini Shamilishvili on 122 kg.
But the clean & jerk changed everything. Bulgaria’s Angel Rusev was once again at his best when it mattered most, lifting 155 kg to take the gold in c&j and total with 275 kg. This was his sixth European title in row !
Cholakyan finished just one kilo behind on 274 kg, while Türkiye’s Yigit Erdogan claimed bronze with 269 kg which is now also a new European Junior record in total.
In the men’s 65 kg category. Muhammed Furkan Ozbek of Turkiye finished with 143 kg in snatch, 180 kg in clean & jerk and 323 kg in total, taking the European title.
Bulgaria’s Ivan Dimov was second with 317 kg, while another Turkish lifter, Ferdi Hardal, completed the podium on 293 kg. Ozbek’s 180 kg clean & jerk which is now the new European Senior record.
