President of the European Weightlifting Federation, Dr. Astrit Hasani, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan, where he held a series of high-level meetings to discuss the future plans of the weightlifting Olympic academy.
During the visit, Dr. Astrit Hasani met with Mr. Kamran Nabizadeh, President of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation, and its Vice President, Mr. Firdovsi Umudov. The parties discussed key issues related to the growth of weightlifting in Azerbaijan, including the organization of international events and coaching seminars. President Hasani praised the conditions created for athletes, noting that Azerbaijan’s investment in sports infrastructure serves as a model for the region.
The discussions also focused on the upcoming online international coaching seminar to be held at the Olympic Academy in Baku. Broader organizational perspectives for future prestigious international events in Azerbaijan were also explored. Later, the delegation toured the Weightlifting Center in Shuvalan and reviewed the national and international competitions hosted there. It was highlighted that the facility is well-equipped not only for large-scale tournaments but also for seminars and training programs. In recognition of the partnership, commemorative medals of the European Weightlifting Federation were presented to Azerbaijani officials.
On behalf of the AWF, Kamran Nabizadeh gifted Dr. Hasani a special souvenir decorated with traditional national ornaments. Additionally, EWF President met with the Minister of Sport of Azerbaijan Mr. Farid Gayibov and the Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Mr. Chingiz Huseynzade, where discussions centered on the future of the Olympic Academy and the country’s role in advancing the Olympic movement across Europe.
EWF President emphasized that Azerbaijan’s commitment to supporting sports at the state level and creating world-class infrastructure represents an exemplary step for the development of weightlifting and the Olympic movement.
With continued investment in athletes and facilities, and growing recognition from international bodies, Azerbaijan is positioning itself as one of Europe’s leading centers for weightlifting excellence. The EWF President congratulated Azerbaijan on its achievements and progress in weightlifting, noting the country’s strong commitment to the sport.
