Starting with December 27, 2024, the National Bank of Moldova puts into circulation commemorative silver coins dedicated to notable personalities and events.

The “Sport” series is now completed by a set of three coins dedicated to canoeing, freestyle wrestling and weightlifting performances, each with a mintage of 500 units. The coins are minted in silver, have a face value of 50 Moldavian Lei and a mintage of 500 units each.

The coins are packaged in special capsules and accompanied by certificates of authenticity with QR codes, being available both online on the National Bank website and through licensed banks in the Republic of Moldova. When scanning the codes, you are redirected to the National Bank’s website with information about each coin. The certificates of authenticity are signed by the governor of the National Bank of Moldova. Ms. Anca Dragu.

The identification of the three sports disciplines was based on the remarkable results achieved by Moldavian athletes in recent years in the world and European rankings. These performances are proof of aspirations for excellence, of the collective spirit of perseverance, selflessness and tenacity.

The Republic of Moldova celebrated its sports champions at the 2025 Olympic Dinner, a traditional event organized by the National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOS), which took place on January 29, 2025, at the Palace of the Republic, with the presence of the leaderships of the National Olympic Committees of Moldova and Romania and the participation of the Olympic families’ members from the two countries. The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, who was among the guests of honor, gave, on this occasion, a speech of appreciation, and in recognition of the effort and success of Moldovan athletes, commemorative coins from the “Sport” series, recently issued to celebrate the remarkable performances of Moldovan athletes, were also offered.

This prestigious event brings together athletes, coaches, government officials, sports professionals, business people and media representatives, being an opportunity to celebrate not only achievements in the field of sports, but also the fundamental values ​​of the Olympic movement.

Among the sports celebrated at the Olympic Dinner, there were also the valuable weightlifters of Moldova, led by Marin Robu and the young talent Nicoleta Cojocaru, who brought podium results to all international competitions in 2024.

The President of FHM, Antonio Conflitti, spoke words of praise for this beautiful initiative: “We are honored to be among the sports celebrated by launching these coins and we are grateful to the National Olympic Committee and the National Bank.
