Bucharest, 31st July 2023 – Spectators and athletes alike felt the exhilarating ripples of achievement on the fifth day of the EWF European Junior and U23 Championships. Weightlifters from across the continent clashed in a spectacle of strength, making for another memorable day in the Romanian capital.

The curtains were raised with the Men’s Junior 81kg and U23 B Groups, kick-starting the day with a potent display of grit and power.

Dominating the first A group of the day, the Men’s Junior 81kg, was Georgia’s Saba Asanidze, whose awe-inspiring performance earned him the gold. He shared the platform with Germany’s Lucas Mueller and Mnatsakan Abrahamyan of Armenia, who respectively claimed the silver and bronze.

Next up, the Women’s Junior 71kg category ignited the stage with Poland’s Martyna Dolega ascending to the top. The Janette Ylisoini and Monika Marach also captured the spotlight, their outstanding performances echoing through the arena.

The riveting display continued with the Men’s U23 81kg category, where Armenian weightlifters Rafik Harutyuan and Karen Margaryan battled their way to gold and silver. The fiercely contested bronze found its home with Patryk Beben of Poland, crowning an intense round of competition.

The grand finale of the day arrived with the Women’s Junior 76kg category, where Alexandrina Ciubotaru of Moldova clinified the gold medal, showcasing her nation’s weightlifting prowess. Turkish representative Bursu Gercekden and the UK’s Isabella Brown added to their countries’ medal hauls, securing silver and bronze, respectively.
