Europe’s Finest Weightlifters Elevate the Competition in Bucharest on Day Two

Bucharest, 27th July 2023 – The ongoing EWF European Junior and U23 Championships continued to captivate audiences on its second day with thrilling displays of athleticism, resilience, and passion from some of Europe’s finest weightlifters.
Day two launched with the Men’s Junior 61kg category, where Romania’s Cosmin Isofache triumphed, buoyed by enthusiastic cheers from his home crowd. He was closely followed by Mustafa Elis of Turkiye, who clinched the silver medal, while Armenia’s Meruzhan Yeghoyan claimed the bronze in a closely contested competition.
Following this was the Women’s Junior 55kg category, which saw another homegrown champion in Andreea Cotruta, adding to Romania’s growing medal tally. The silver medal went to Celine Delia of Italy, whose spectacular performance was a sight to behold, while the bronze was claimed by Malgorzata Myjak from Poland.
The Men’s U23 55kg category then took center stage, showcasing the strength of Italy’s Federico La Barbera who clinched the gold medal. Hot on his heels was Romania’s Valentin Iancu, earning silver for his country, while Georgia’s Bachuki Shamilishvili bagged the bronze, emphasizing the intensely competitive nature of this championship.
Next events was the Men’s U23 61kg category. Armenia’s Gamik Cholakyan emerged victorious, highlighting Armenia’s growing presence in these Championships. He was joined on the podium by Spain’s David Lopez Perales and Sweden’s Andy Toha, who earned silver and bronze respectively.
In the final spectacle of the day, the Women’s U23 55kg category provided a gripping conclusion to the second day of competition. Monika Szymanek of Poland seized the gold medal, followed by Annika Pilz from Germany, who secured the silver medal in a fierce competition. Rounding off the podium was Turkiye Burcu Alici.
