EWF European Junior and U23 Championships 2023: Thrilling Day 1 Start in Bucharest

Bucharest, 25th July 2023 – The EWF European Junior and U23 Championships 2023 kicked off with exhilarating performances and standout athletes in the heart of Romania’s capital city. The first day of competition saw athletes hailing from across Europe demonstrating both their power and their precision in their respective weight categories.
The championship commenced with the Women’s Junior 45kg category, showcasing incredible young talent. The Turkish lifters made their presence known with Cansu Bektas emerging victorious, followed by Marta Garcia from Spain who showed remarkable grit and determination. Altun Gamez, another Turkish athlete, won medals for Turkiye in this category by securing the third position.
The arena then played host to the Men’s Junior 55kg category, offering yet another thrilling session. Harun Algul of Turkiye continued the Turkish triumphant streak, taking home the top prize. Andrii Revko from Ukraine and Seyran Khudanyan from Armenia followed Algul, securing the second and third spots respectively, each displaying inspiring resolve and tenacity
Next came the joint groups of Women’s U23 in the 45kg and 49kg categories. Bianca Dumitrescu of Romania, Ecaterina Grabucea from Moldova, and Nadezdha Nguen from Bulgaria stole the spotlight in the 45kg category. Each athlete displayed an impressive mixture of strength and technique.
The excitement escalated in the 49kg category, where Romania’s Mihaela Cambei not only clinched the gold but also set new records, leaving the audience in awe. Following her were Ruslana Kuzikova of Ukraine and Duygu Alici from Turkiye, both demonstrating formidable prowess on the stage.
The final event of the day was the Women’s Junior 49kg category. Mariam Maisuradze from Georgia emerged as the gold medalist, followed closely by Oliwia Drzazga from Poland and Medine Bilicier from Turkiye.
