Romania will organize next summer from the 24th of July to the 3rd of August the European Weightlifting Championships for Juniors and U23 in Bucharest.

EWF representatives were received by the Romanian Weightlifting Federation’s General Secretary Alexandru Padure, a Member of the EWF Executive Board, who presented the organization plan, the locations identified for the competition and training, as well as the accommodation structures that will provide full-service for the delegations.

The EWF officials on February 20th, inspected together the RomExpo pavilions in Bucharest where the official competition and training will take place, as well as all the annexed spaces, which will be used in the organization. The generous spaces of the exhibition complex based in the capital of Romania will allow an airy arrangement of the competition in compliance with the best standards.

The EWF President and Secretary paid a visit and greet the secretariat of the Romanian Federation at its headquarters, wishing the best of luck to the organization, and later visited the Training Sports Complex near Bucharest where the national team was in full training session for the upcoming European Championships that will be hosted by Armenia in April.

On February 21st, the delegation was also received by the Minister of Sport from Romania, Mr. Eduard Novák who thanked the delegates for the visit and confirmed Romania’s capacity to organize major competitions, such as the one in July 2023, and also showed his openness to support projects that can contribute to the development of weightlifting. Eduard Novák, four times Paralympic medalists in cycling was recently declared by the Book of Records, as being the first Minister of Sports in the world who conquers a Paralympic medal – silver in cycling at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The high Romanian official recalled the beautiful performances obtained by the Romanian athletes in 2022 and in particular those achieved by Loredana Toma and Mihaela Cambei at the Senior World Championships in Colombia, mentioning that the Romanian Weightlifting Federation will be financed accordingly this year and athletes will get the necessary support. Topics related to the general context of sport and projects undertaken by EWF were also discussed, including the pilot licensing project for coaches that will be launched next month in Sweden.

EWF leaders remarked during the visit on the FRH’s excellent organizational skills for past events and are sure that the 2023 EWF Junior & U23 Championships will be a success.
