Day 6 of the 2026 EWF European Championships in Batumi brought two standout performances and two very different stories. In the women’s 86 kg category, Armenia’s Emma Poghosyan came from behind after the snatch to take gold with a record-breaking finish. In the men’s 94 kg category, Bulgaria’s Karlos May Nasar was simply too strong, winning all three golds on his way to another European title.
The women’s 86 kg category was decided in the clean & jerk. Iana Sotieva AIN led after the snatch with 112 kg, ahead of Great Britain’s Madias Dodo Nzesso Ngake on 111 kg and Poghosyan in third with 107 kg. But once the bar got heavier in the second part of the competition, Poghosyan changed everything. She made 141 kg in clean & jerk a lift that is now new European Junior record and with 248 kg total, also a new European Junior record.
Sotieva had to settle for silver on 247 kg, just one kilo behind, while Ngake claimed bronze with 240 kg.
The men’s 94 kg category was led from the start by Nasar. The Bulgarian star won the snatch with 176 kg, one kilo ahead of Armenia’s Ara Aghanyan on 175 kg, while Türkiye’s Hakan Sukru Kurnaz was third in that lift with 166 kg. From there, Nasar never let the door open. He added 210 kg in the clean & jerk and finished with 386 kg total, again topping the category in every section.
Behind him, Aghanyan took silver with 381 kg, while France’s Romain Imadouchene secured bronze on 370 kg after a strong 207 kg clean & jerk.
