From 13-16 February 2025, EWF President, Kt Antonio Conflitti, paid a working visit to Cyprus, accompanied by world weightlifting legend and IWF Vice President, Pirros Dimas.
Upon arrival, a welcome meeting was held with the Executive of the Cyprus Weightlifting Federation, during which the current situation of the National Federation and the ongoing and future development programs were discussed. Special appreciation was directed to President Andreas Robumas and Secretary General Denise Offermann, who also holds the position of EWF Executive Board Member, for their overall activity and commitment to supporting and growing a new generation of young weightlifters.
On the second day, a working visit was held at The Cyprus Sport Organisation, where a meeting was held with President Demos Georgiades. They discussed various opportunities for the development of weightlifting in Cyprus, including the return of the National Federation among the organizers of future EWF competitions, highlighting the ongoing significant renovation of the Spyros Kyprianou Athletics Centre in Limassol, which has already hosted international multi-sport sports events including weightlifting, and will soon be able to offer all the necessary modern conditions.
A visit was then made to the Cyprus Olympic Committee, attended by the Secretary General, Mr. Gioti Ioannides. The delegation welcomed the strong support enjoyed by the National Federation by the NOC, which was more than willing to support their future joint activities.
On the second day, there was also the opportunity for EWF and IWF delegates to participate in the 2025 national selection competition, where the best Cypriot athletes competed to secure a place in the national team that will participate in international events in 2025.
President Conflitti conveyed a message of satisfaction and solidarity from the EWF to the entire Cypriot sports family, expressing his hope to return soon for a continental or international competition on the beautiful island of Cyprus.
