During the Ordinary and Electoral Congress of the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Moldova, held in Chisinau, on the 14 November, 2024, Antonio Conflitti and Maxim Cojocaru were reconfirmed President and Secretary General of the national weightlifting governing body, unanimously, in the presence of the observer of the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, the State Secretary in charge of sports, Mr. Sergiu Gurin.
The first part of the congress was focused on reporting the results and activities of the National Federation in the last Olympic cycle, emphasizing the exponential growth of performance by the members of the Moldavian National Team. A change was made to the Federation’s Constitution, consisting in the inclusion of the position of a “main coach” of the national team. The former weightlifter and coach Sergiu Cretu will cover this role for the next Olympic Cycle.
In the second part of the important meeting, dedicated to the elections, Mr. Conflitti, that covers also the position of EWF President, was re-elected unanimously together with the General Secretary Maxim Cojocaru, who were also the only candidates.
As First Vice-President, Birca Andrei was elected with 22 votes in favor., while Vice- Presidents positions will be covered by Mr. Spac David and Ms. Tretiacova Ecaterina, both former weightlifters, involved now in several administrative activities in national weightlifting.
The election of a woman to a position in the Federal Bureau is a first for the Federation of Moldova and was very welcome by all the delegates. Mr. Cozima Mihail, Mr. Reutchi Alexandru and Mr. Sirghi Oleg were elected as ordinary Federal Bureau Members.
It should be noted that with the new leadership of the Moldavian executive is totally renewed with new and young people, which prompted the re-elected President to declare the following: “I am at least happy and thank everyone for the vote of confidence. I am glad that we have a woman, for the first time, on the Board and I am happy with the election of the new members, which convinces me of our ability to continue the projects we started together.”
The Ordinary and Electoral Congress of the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Moldova took place one day before the start of the National Championships for Seniors, which will gather athletes from almost all affiliated sports clubs in the country.
The EWF General Secretary and the entire EWF Executive Board addresses sincere congratulations to the re elected President and new Board of the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Moldova.
