Dmitry Vasilenko has been elected the new President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation, with 65 votes of the 77 available, during the Electoral Congress held in Moscow, on Sunday, the 10th of November 2024.
Vasilenko, who was born on February 28, 1982, served as Secretary General of the Russian Federation and a Member of its Executive Board. He holds the title of Candidate for Master of Sports in weightlifting and Master of Sports International Class in short track.
He is a former speed skater who won, in 2004, a silver medal at the European Championships in the 5.000 metre short track relay. Apart from that, he is a five-time champion of Russia in this sports discipline.
In addition to Vasilenko, the candidates for the President’s position were Maxim Agapitov, who headed the RWF since 2016, and Boris Seregin, head of the Tula Regional Federation. They received 9 and 2 votes respectively.
“I am sure that my experience in sports over many years as an athlete and then a sports administrator will allow me to build constructive, mutually respectful relations with the EWF leadership and I will make every effort to ensure that the Russian Weightlifting Federation takes its rightful place in the European Weightlifting family”, stated the new elected President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation.
