Three-time Olympian and current President of the Belgian Weightlifting Federation, Tom Goegebuer, has been awarded the Order of Merit of the BOIC. This Award honours an individual who made an exceptional contribution to the Olympic Movement in Belgium.
Tom Goegebuer was handed the award by BOIC President Jean-Michel Saive – OLY and CEO Cédric Van Branteghem, OLY during the General Assembly of the BOIC on 4 June. This General Assembly was hosted by Belgian Defence at the Royal Military Academy, Belgium.
During this General Assembly, the BOIC welcomed two new federations into the Olympic family with the Belgian Ultimate and Belgian Weightlifting. Furthermore, CEO Cédric Van Branteghem, Elite Sports Director Olav Spahl and Marketing & Communications Director Dieter Reyntjens reported on the various activities and initiatives of the BOIC, while Louise Cavenaile, OLY coordinated the votes and resolutions. Treasurer Pascal Mertens presented all budgetary and financial reports for 2023-2024. BOIC President Jean-Michel Saive emphasized that the word ‘ambition’ is key in the aspirations of Team Belgium and the BOIC for the future.
