With the motto “SUPPORT AND PROMOTE CLEAN AND FAIR WEIGHTLIFTING – WE CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!!!,” the European Weightlifting Federation, through the specialized commissions led by Denise Offerman (EWF Anti-Doping commission) and Alexandru Padure (Fair-Play commission), organizes Anti-Doping and Fair-Play seminars during each EWF event in light of the complexities of the weightlifting sport’s situation. Good practice was demonstrated with the launch of a series of Anti-Doping and Fair-Play seminars on the occasion of the European Junior and U23 Championships, which held in Finland between September 24th and October 3rd, 2021.
Over 35 people from Finland, Romania, France, Iceland, Russia, Denmark, Turkey, Norway, Austria, and Spain attended the three sessions in Rovaniemi. At the meetings, a representative from the Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports SUEK was also present.
At the beginning of the competition, during the Opening Ceremony our competition entered in the Fair-Play Relay. Weightlifting Championships in Rovaniemi were subsequent to the Junior Judo European Championships from Vantaa and Finnish judoka Louna-Lumia Seikkula has presented the Fair-Play baton to our young weightlifters and wished them best of luck
All participants were awarded received Certificates of Attendance and the first registered received also T-shirts offered as a prize by the Eleiko company.
The EWF introduced the Fair Play Trophy for the first time at the 2021 European Championships in Rovaniemi. The Romanian young weightlifter was trophy awarded by Santa Claus and Lasha Talakhadse for her socially responsible behavior, which included not leaving her room and missing weight in procedure while waiting for Covid-19 testing results, which were ultimately negative, allowing her to leave isolation, but competition had already begun.
