The Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak National Weightlifting Federations have officially established the Visegrad Four Weightlifting Federation (V4WF), strengthening the long-standing cooperation between the four Central European countries and creating a new platform for the regional development of weightlifting.
The name “Visegrad” refers to the Hungarian city where the historic meeting was held in 1335 between Bohemian, Hungarian and Polish leaders to foster close cooperation and peace.
The V4WF brings together the four National Federations of the Visegrad Group with the shared objective of promoting and developing weightlifting throughout the region.
Its activities will focus particularly on regular international competitions, education and knowledge-sharing, as well as opportunities for the development of young athletes, coaches, referees and sports officials.
The establishment of the V4WF builds on the historical cooperation among the four countries in weightlifting and provides a structured framework for further collaboration.
Through joint competitions and educational initiatives, the Federation aims to contribute to the sustainable growth of the sport and strengthen the connections between the weightlifting communities of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
Attila Adamfi Elected First President of the V4WF
At its inaugural meeting, the V4WF Executive Board elected Attila Adamfi, Vice President of the Hungarian Weightlifting Federation, as the first President of the Visegrad Four Weightlifting Federation.
“The establishment of the Visegrad Four Weightlifting Federation is an important step in strengthening the cooperation among our four countries. We have a shared history and strong traditions in weightlifting, and together we can create new opportunities for athletes and the entire weightlifting community.
Our focus will be on development, education and competition, with particular attention to the next generation,” said Attila Adamfi, President of the V4WF.
Successful Visegrad Four Tournament in Cheb
The establishment of the V4WF is announced following the successful Visegrad 4 Tournament, held in Cheb, Czechia, on 21–22 August 2026.
The competition brought together athletes from all four Visegrad countries in the U18 and U23 age groups.
The tournament provided young lifters with valuable international competition experience while further strengthening cooperation between the participating federations.
The successful Cheb event demonstrated the potential of the V4WF as a platform for regular regional competitions and youth development.

The V4WF will continue to work closely with the four national federations to develop a programme of competitions and educational activities, creating a sustainable regional framework for the future of weightlifting.
