By Hungarian Weightlifting Federation 

On June 4, the Tata Olympic Center hosted the 2nd Weightlifting Day of the Hungarian Weightlifting Federation, which was attended by more than 80 coaches, sports managers, club managers and experts from all over the country. The central theme of the event was sport development, the application of sports science and building the future of Hungarian weightlifting. The professional day created an excellent opportunity for the participants to learn about international experiences, scientific results and practical solutions, while thinking together about the tasks facing the sport.
 
The professional day was opened by Dr. Péter Nagy, President of the Hungarian Weightlifting Association, and Dr. Sándor Sáfár (National Sport Authority), who emphasized the importance of professional dialogue and cooperation for the future of the sport.
 
In the first part of the morning program, the participants heard presentations from renowned international experts who presented the operation of successful sports systems through their own experiences.
 
Ferenc Szabó presented the decades-long development history and work of the La Coruña weightlifting club in Spain. His presentation showed how a local, small association can become an internationally recognized and successful workshop with consistent professional work, conscious talent search and a stable organizational background. The participants were particularly interested in the club’s youth recruitment system, which assesses a thousand schoolchildren with its talent search system and is based on reaching hundreds of young people.
 
Featured Georgian guest speakers, Olympic champion and head coach George Asanidze and David Kipshidze, Marketing and communications expert provided insight into the functioning of Georgian weightlifting, the challenges of international sports, and the role of communication and strategy in sports. Their presentations highlighted that behind successful sports are not only successful athletes, but also well-structured systems, clear goals, and a strong professional culture.

HWF Head Coach, Gergely Palinkas presented the possibilities of practical application of sports science. His presentation focused on objective measurement, diagnostics, monitoring and data-based decision-making. The participants were able to see through concrete, practical examples how sports science can help coaching work and the development of athletes.

Further presentations were delivered by, and a panel discussion held with Hungarian experts in different fields, including the methodology of the “high performance” approach in the world of sports, the role of tapering and form timing in individual Olympic sports, the role and potential of endurance training in weightlifting and how adequate basic endurance can contribute to faster regeneration, greater load capacity, and higher levels of sport-specific training.
 
Beside weightlifting, experts represented a variety of sports, including basketball, cycling and swimming.
 
The closing lecture of the day was given by Ákos Nagy, Secretary General of the HWF. The presentation not only analyzed the current situation of the sport, but also identified the most important tasks for the coming years. The discussion included increasing the number of athletes, the situation of coaching training, the role of clubs, and the social and Olympic future of the sport. One of the most important messages of the closing lecture was that the future of Hungarian weightlifting does not depend on a single big decision.
 
The basis of development is those everyday, consistent steps that result in more athletes, more qualified coaches, stronger clubs and a more visible, more attractive sport.

By the end of the day, it became clear that there is significant professional knowledge, experience and development in Hungarian weightlifting. The presentations and discussions of the event pointed to a common direction: openness, cooperation, knowledge and continuous development are needed to build the future.
