The European Weightlifting Federation is pleased to share information received from the Georgian Weightlifting Federation, host of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, Georgia.

EWF extends its sincere appreciation to GWF for the introduction of monetary prizes for medal winners — an initiative being implemented for the first time in the history of the European Weightlifting Championships.

According to the statement from GWF:

“ We are delighted to announce an exciting new highlight for the athletes participating in the European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi.

“I am pleased to share that, at the initiative of the Georgian National Weightlifting Federation and with the support of Georgia’s sports leadership, we have successfully established a prize fund for the Championships,” said Lasha Talakhadze, President of the Georgian Weightlifting Federation.

During the European Championships in Batumi, medal-winning athletes in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total will receive cash prizes in addition to their medals and trophies.

For each of these three disciplines individually, the top three athletes will be awarded prize money as follows:

1st place – €1,500
2nd place – €1,000
3rd place – €500

This marks a historic first in the history of the European Weightlifting Championships. In conclusion, Lasha Talakhadze, three-time Olympic champion and President of GWF, stated:

“We believe this initiative will provide additional motivation for all participating athletes and further enhance the competitive spirit of the event. I am confident that the Championships will be held at the highest sporting level, bringing memorable victories and outstanding performances. Georgia is ready to host you, and we sincerely hope to once again meet your expectations.”

We wish you every success and look forward to welcoming you to the competition stage in Batumi.”

EWF is pleased to note that the level of the European Weightlifting Championships continues to rise steadily and expresses its gratitude to GWF for its long-standing contribution to the development of weightlifting.
