On January 25, 2025, the Slovak Weightlifting Federation held an electoral congress in Trstena, at which Tomáš Chovanec was re-elected as the president of the Slovak Weightlifting Federation for the election period 2025-2028.

47 delegates out of 81 expressed confidence in him already in the first round. The new Executive Board consists of Pavol Trojčák, Ondrej Kružel Jr., Rudolf Egrecký, Štefan Gribanin, Marián Buschbacher Jr. and Miriama Žiaková – representative of athletes. At its session, the Congress also elected new members of the Disciplinary Commission, namely: Branislav Pestún, Michal Kvas and Marián Kolpaský.

The Congress began with the President’s report on the activities of the Federation in 2024, which was approved, and then elections to SWF bodies took place. In his program for the 2025-2028 Olympic cycle, current chairman emphasized that the new executive board must immediately work on creating a strategic plan for the material, technical and financial security of competitors who have the potential to participate in the 28th Olympics in Los Angeles. He stated that the cooperation of all parties is necessary in establishing measurable goals, a schedule for meeting the goals, and approving the financial coverage of this program.

As the other goals, Tomáš Chovanec declared:

– Creation of a program for youth who have a chance of qualifying for the 2032 Olympics.
– To ensure the material and financial coverage of the Slovak weightlifting representation.
– Establish and strengthen the program for young athletes in clubs “Long term athlete development” and increase the membership base of young weightlifters.
– Cooperation with primary and secondary schools.
– Improve the training program for coaches and referees.
– Establishment of an advisory group for the field of marketing and foreign relations, where in the near future he wants to appoint a specialist who will manage this activity.

In conclusion, Tomáš Chovanec said that SWF has won 35 medals at the World and European Championships in the last four years. He stated that in 2024, Slovakia had a record 35 participants at the EC or WC. The Federation’s budget was doubled, several programs were launched for the development of clubs, youth, coaches and referees. He declared that it was a joint work of the entire SZV leadership and therefore thanks the delegates for electing him as president, and for him the election is a confirmation that he should continue with the established projects and programs. At the same time, President Chovanec thanked his colleagues who were in his team for their cooperation, and that he is convinced that with the new members of the Executive Board they will continue the development of the Slovak Weightlifting Association.
