EWF President and IWF Executive Board Member, Kt. Antonio Conflitti, who is also President of the Moldavian Weightlifting Federation, was elected Member of the Executive Board of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova, for the term 2024 – 2028.
This achievement is very important considering that it is the first time that a representative of the Moldavian weightlifting movement holds such a position.
The election took place on Friday, 18 October, 2024, in Chisinau, when the Moldavian NOC General Assembly re confirmed Nicolae Juravschi, for his sixth mandate, to the organisation’s leadership. Juravschi is a former canoe sprinter and won two gold Olympic medals in Seoul 1988 and one silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
“It is a big honour for me, but, most importantly, it represents a huge tribute to the weightlifting movement in Moldova. Our weightlifters are proudly representing the country at the highest level and getting significant results in major international competitions. While this is very important from an institutional point of view, it will also translate into a bigger motivation to do more and better in the years to come”, considered President Conflitti, after his election.
Antonio Conflitti therefore joins weightlifter Marin Robu, who, starting from last year, holds the position of Member of the Athletes Commission at NOC Moldova levels.
Among the EWF Members Federation’s representatives who have positions at the level of the National Olympic Committees are Waldemar Gospodarek, the President of the Polish Weightlifting Federation, who is Vice President of NOC Poland and Alexandru Padure, the President of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation, who was appointed Member in the Olympic Technical Commission and for Performance Sports for Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
The EWF General Secretary, Dr. Milan Mihajlovic addressed sincere congratulations to President Conflitti, emphasizing, at the same time, the importance that among colleagues from our National Federations there are members at the level of the Olympic Committees:
“Congratulations to our President for this important achievement and congratulations and successful projects to all the colleagues who cover positions at the NOC level and who, to some extent, represent also the interests of our sport, keeping strong relations with the Olympic movement.”
