New FIPE President Alberto Miglietta

Alberto Miglietta has been elected President of the Italian Weightlifting Federation for the four-year period 2025-2028. This was established by the elective Assembly that met on the 13 th of October 2024, at the Hilton Hotel in Rome Fiumicino, electing him with 99.68% of the votes.

Alberto Miglietta, born in Milan in 1960, already President of an Olympic National Sports Federation, from 2004 to 2017, International Sports Manager, CEO of CONI Servizi, takes up the legacy of Antonio Urso, President of FIPE, from 2005 to 2024. This is therefore an epochal change for FIPE, which is renewing its leadership after 20 years.

Alberto Miglietta opens his mandate with a record: he is the first to hold the role of President for two National Olympic Sports Federations, in Italy. The new Federal Council of FIPE is composed of: Giuseppe Minissale (Vice President), Maria Rosa Flaiban (Vice President), Ilaria Beltrami, Massimo Grassi, Nicola Testa, Claudio Toninel, Clementina Veneziano, Pasquale Primavera, Irene Toma and Maurizio Sardo. There has also been a change in the Board of Auditors: the new president is Dr. Aldo Mainini. Francesco Bonincontro has been reconfirmed as Secretary General.

New FIPE Executive Board

“There is great satisfaction – says Miglietta, just elected – for having accepted this request from the Italian weightlifting movement to represent it as President. I arrived at this appointment after trying to get to know the territory by visiting it for a long time in recent months. The goal was to understand what the Federation’s needs were to make a further leap forward. It is precisely with the territory that I have decided to share my trust and my project. My program aims to make FIPE grow not only in technical results, but also from the point of view of training, high technical training and promotion and development. This is a real change and what we want to achieve is an important example that we will bring to the Italian sports system that I know very well. Together with my team we have shared the first actions giving continuity to the Olympic and Paralympic Technical Directions by confirming the roles of Sebastiano Corbu and Sandro Boraschi. In my program I defined ours as ‘the sport of strength’ and it is precisely for this reason that we must become the point of reference in this area. It will be a great adventure.”

Dr. Antonio Urso received the FIPE Gold Medal at General Elective Assembly

The Italian Weightlifting Federation celebrated one day before the elective Assembly Dr. Antonio Urso, who after twenty years of Presidency, leaves the top of FIPE. Urso, also Secretary General of the International Weightlifting Federation for two years, received the gold medal of FIPE from the hands of the Secretary General Francesco Bonincontro, at the end of a pleasant and emotional ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Fiumicino (Rome), which preceded a concert where the singer was none other than Antonio Urso, well known for his great passion for music.

The entire federal world was present, starting with the Olympic medalists of Paris, the two bronzes Nino Pizzolato in the Olympic and Donato Telesca in the Paralympic, and then the entire movement of Italian weightlifting, which confirms itself not only constantly growing but also compact and united. The two bronze medalists from Paris, and all the technicians of Team Italy, led by Technical Directors Sebastiano Corbu for Olympic Weightlifting and Sandro Boraschi for Paralympic Weightlifting, received a special recognition for the prestigious results achieved and for the work carried out during the entire Olympic four-year period.

FIPE celebrated the people, the affiliated clubs, the territorial organizations and the projects carried out in this four-year period: the National Federal Centers, where the athletes of tomorrow are born and built.

Antonio Urso: “I am proud and happy that we were moved, which means that in this Federation there is humanity, the sense of the other and of being together is a value that FIPE has embraced and wants to continue to have. In this Federation we care about athletes, their management, managers; this has happened in twenty years and if after all this we are still moved it means that something has worked. This is not a moment of farewells, it does not belong to me, also because when something begins it is certain that it ends. What interests me is meeting people, because that is how worlds open up, horizons of meaning are disclosed and in these twenty years I have met so many wonderful people and built so much, together with them”.

The top management of the Italian Olympic Committee also took part in the meetings in Rome, with President Giovanni Malago, IOC Member, in front, accompanied by another IOC Member for Italy, Ivo Ferriani.

EWF representatives were also present with the presence of President Antonio Conflitti and EB Member Alexandru Padure.
