The 10th edition of the European Union Weightlifting Confederation’s Cup took place in Bucharest, Romania, bringing together top Youth and Junior weightlifters from across Europe. Held in the Pullman Hotel World Trade Center Complex in the Romanian capital, from 04 to 05 of October, 2024, the competition featured 60 athletes from eleven EUWC Member Federations: Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The event was hailed as a major success, showcasing not only the athletes strength and determination, but also the exceptional organization and hospitality of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation.
Under the leadership of Alexandru Padure, the Romanian Weightlifting Federation delivered a successful event, providing first-class facilities and ensuring that athletes and officials were well-catered for. Padure, recognized for his dedication to the sport, was widely praised for his meticulous management of the tournament, which offered a competition hall set up in a tent-type structure with all the facilities annexed to the warm-up and training spaces that remained within the official hotel of the event, where participants benefited of full board accommodation conditions.
In addition to the competition, the European Union Weightlifting Confederation an ITO’s examination session for IWF Category II and I and two insightful seminars. The first, led by Professor Dr. Milan Mihajlovic, EWF General Secretary and IWF TC Member, focused on IWF Technical Competition Rules and Regulations, offering athletes, coaches, and officials valuable insights into the latest updates in weightlifting standards and interactive video presentations and practical cases. The second seminar, on Anti-Doping, was conducted by the Romanian National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) General Director, Dr. Gabriela Andreiasu, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining a clean and fair competitive environment.
On the occasion of the competition, a stand of the National Anti-Doping Agency was set up, which carried out a WADA/NADO Outreach Athletes campaign, which provided several tablets and gifts for all those who wanted to test their knowledge on the subject Anti Doping in general. A mobile Anti Doping control station of NADO Romania was also parked near the competition hall, which was visited by the participating athletes.
Jesmond Caruana, President of the European Union Weightlifting Confederation and Giuseppe Minissale, EUWC General Secretary, expressed great satisfaction with the event, praising the organization and extending thanks to the European Weightlifting Federation and its President, Antonio Conflitti, present at the Event in Bucharest, for their unwavering support. He also lauded the athletes for their outstanding performances, remarking on the “excellent results achieved” and commending the Romanian Federation for hosting a smooth and professionally run competition. Caruana’s comments highlighted the high level of competition and flawless execution, setting a new benchmark for future editions of the European Union Weightlifting Cup.
As athletes from across the continent demonstrated their strength and skill, the tournament underscored the importance of education and fairness in sports. The Bucharest event was not only a celebration of athletic excellence but also a testament to the continued growth and integrity of weightlifting in Europe at all levels.

The athletes and their teams received medals for those who took places on the podium, cups, participation medals and diplomas. The best Teams overall were Poland, Italy and Romania.
