Romfilatelia, the institution designed to issue Romanian postage stamps, following a partnership with the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee and the Romanian Weightlifting Federation, introduces into circulation, on Friday, August 23rd , 2024, the philatelic issue Olympic Medals – Paris 2024, consisting of seven postage stamps, an imperforated souvenir sheet and a set of three “First Day Covers”, within the issue being illustrated the images of the laureates in sports disciplines in which Romania had participants and medalists.
Nine Olympic medals – three gold, four silver and two bronze – make up the “harvest” with which the Romanian athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, held between July 26 th and August 11 th , 2024, returned home.
The sports, in which they achieved these remarkable results, are 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle in swimming, men’s double sculls, lightweight women’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, eight and women’s coxless pair in rowing, women’s gymnastics and weightlifting in the 49 kg category. On the postage stamp with the face value of 3 Lei is depicted the image of Mihaela Valentina Cambei, the winner of the Olympic silver medal, in the 49 kg weightlifting category.
Declared the best weightlifter in Europe in 2023, she is the holder of gold, silver and bronze medals won at the World and European Championships and during her career so far, she has set several continental records.
The President of Romanian Weightlifting Federation Alexandru Padure stated: “I thank the friends from Romfilatelia and the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee for the realization of this important project for all of us. Mihaela’s success will remain imprinted on these postage stamps, which is an important and well-deserved recognition, but also supports the increase in the visibility of our sport and the heritage of weightlifting, in general. Postage stamps have always been something special and it is not by chance that they have always aroused the interest of many collectors.”
