On Saturday, August 24, in Subotica, Serbia, the Spartak Weightlifting Club, with the support of the local authorities of Subotica and the Serbian Weightlifting Federation organized a traditional “38. International Subotica Cup”.
65 competitors from Serbia, Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia, and for the first time also Lithuania participated with athletes, coaches and technical officials in this prestigious tournament that became the pride of the city located in northern Serbia, just a few kilometers far from the border with Hungary.
In the team ranking, the best ranked was the Spartak, the home team, composed of Aleksandar Saulić, Mihajlo Šijak, and Ivan Erdeg, ahead of TAK Domžale (Slovenia) and ACS Amefa Arad (Romania). Among the seniors, the best individual was the guest from Lithuania, Stonkus Karolis, ahead of Aleksandar Saulić from Subotica and Peter Drobnik from Slovenia. Mihajlo Šijak (Spartak) was declared the best junior, Ivan Erdeg (Spartak) was the best competitor U17, while Ciharean Razvan (ACS Amefa Arad) was the best among participants U15.
Along with the President of the host Federation and EWF General Secretary, Dr. Milan Mihajlovic, the event also enjoyed the presence of the General Secretary of the Lithuanian Weightlifting Federation, Modestas Simkus, and the Vice-President of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation, Gheorghe Biris, and Peter Nagy 3 time Olympian and well-known name if the world of weightlifting, who only had words of praise for the exemplary organization of this tournament.
The SWF President was very satisfied with the presence of the participating countries and the presence of friends from the Lithuanian Federation, who were at this competition for the first time: “It is a joy to see so many athletes who always respond to the invitation to participate in the “Subotica Cup” and I am very happy, especially for the presence of colleagues and friends from Lithuania, who were in Serbia for the first time. The support and involvement of Spartak Weightlifting Club and the local authorities were decisive for ensuring the continuity of this tournament, which, as we all saw, became a source of pride for the Subotica community.
