The annual Nordic Youth and Junior Championships took place in Iceland in a brand new weightlifting hall and the first of its kind in Iceland called Midgard during the weekend 12-13th of November. The six member nations of the Nordic Weightlifting Federation (NWF) competed in this annual competition; Denmark, Faroe Islands (first time), Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. This year over 100 lifters signed up for the competition in the two age categories.

Best male lifter in juniors was Joen Vikingsson-Sjöblom of Sweden that lifted a total of 331kg in the -102kg category while the best youth lifter was Eetu Hautaniemi of Finland that made all new Nordic records in -81kg category snatching 117kg and clean and jerking 140kg.
Other highlights included a nice battle in the -71 youth category between Janette Ylisoini of Finland and Úlfhildur Arna Unnarsdóttir of Iceland where they both snatch 85kg. Janette ending as the winner after 107kg C&J and Úlfhildur second, the same places they had at the European Youth Championships in Poland earlier this year.
During the tournament, three female lifters were awarded the Nordic Elite Pin a tradition that goes back more then 50 years. The pin is awarded for reaching a certain total in a specified weight class, all the athletes made their results at the 100th European Senior Championships in Tirana, Albania earlier this year. Katla Björk Ketilsdottir of Iceland for 194kg total in the -64kg female category, Eyglo Fanndal Sturludottir of Iceland for 205kg total in -71kg category and Aino Luostarinen of Finland for 204kg total in the -64kg category.
