The Maccabiah is the world’s largest sporting competition under the Maccabi tradition and values. In Israel, the Maccabiah is held every four (4) years.
The 2022 Maccabiah Games were held in Israel from July 14 to July 27, 2022, and included competitors from 38 sports.
Weightlifting competition held in the YMCA Sports Center in Jerusalem, on July 18-19, 2022.
The tournament was significant not just because of the excellent athletes that competed, but also because weightlifting returned to this multi-sport event after a 33-year gap.
There were 44 overall weightlifters, 22 men and 22 women.
USA, Peru, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Romania, Germany, France, and Israel were all represented.
Celia Gold (USA) and David Litvinov (ISR) had the best individual results, and Israel had the top team.

This event was attended by EWF President Antonio Conflitti, EWF General Secretary Milan Mihajlovic, and EWF EB members, Alexandru Padure and Oren Shai.
The organizer, the Israel Weightlifting Federation, did an outstanding job in reintroducing weightlifting to an important multi-sport event.
Commonwealth Games and Islamic Solidarity Games are two additional notable multi-sport events in which weightlifting plays a significant part and we will be able to follow our sport soon.
