Antonio Conflitti, President of the Weightlifting Federation of Moldova, will lead the EWF as President, following the result of the Extraordinary Congress’ electoral process requested by continental Member Federations earlier this autumn. The voting took place Saturday, the 18th of December, during a virtual meeting, organized just before the IWF Executive Board Meeting and Congress in the capital of Uzbekistan.
Adoption of a new EWF Constitution and a revamp of communication are among of the top priorities of the new President who has also assured Member Federations’ delegates that he will do his utmost to fight doping in our sport, maintain the Olympic status of weightlifting and will make the most of his presence in the IWF Executive Board.
Conflitti got 24 of the 39 valid votes cast, defeating the opponent Ashley Metcalfe, from Great Britain, who got 15 votes, in the second round.
The third candidate remained in the race for the EWF leadership, Davit Kipshidze, from Georgia, was eliminated in the first round after getting 5 of the 39 valid votes cast, but will continue his activity in the Executive Board, as EWF Vice President.
